It's turning into a culture nowadays. Basically, it is a modified version of the English Language that is used on the internet, online. It's shorter than the original word, easier to type, and equally understandable. Plus, we have added our own Malaysian touch to it. We have the LAH, LO, LEH, MAH, MEH and a few others. It's becoming a language on its own.
For me, I seldom use any shortforms. I'm not saying it's better or anything, it's just my style to use proper english. Though it can be troublesome sometimes to have to type words in full, especially the long ones like tomorrow, understand, breakfast and so on. Anyway, here are the ones that I don't use.
LMAO, ROTFLMAO, l8r, w8, brb, btw, wuz, hv, d, u, 2, 4, gt, wat, wad, wud, anot, tis, tat, cnt, tmr, ytd, ttly, tq, tqvm, cya, y, nt, yr, lyk, whn, wit, gd nite, dy, edi, wat, ur, dey, sry, wth, wtf, stfu etc.
I don't even use 'ok', it's 'okay' for me.
All too many. How about I show you the ones that I use.
I use yea/yeap/yeah/yup, not yaya/ya/yah/yuh cause 'yes' sometimes sounds too serious.
I use LOL, not lol/lolz/lulz/lols/lolx.
I use haha, not hehe/hihi/heehee/muahaha/wahaha/wakaka.
I use OMG, not omg/omfg/zomg/zomfg.
I use lah and lo, not larh/loh/lorh/lorhs/lorhz/luh/lurh/lurhs/lurhz.
I use gtg when I really got to go.
I use etc because I forgot how to spell it in full.
Yeap that's about it.
This whole style of language has been excessively used by online users, mainly the teenange generation, us. That in itself isn't really a bad thing. However people tend to ignore their grammar in the midst of using the online language. I think people are starting to forget how to use proper english. That's kinda bad don't you think? And it's getting worse. People should really know their english. I'm just saying.
*'Pwned' is not a shortform but an intergration of the word 'owned'. *
