But honestly, I don't know what Valentine's Day is. First off, the origin. I looked up wiki and it said something about chrisitian matyr Saint Valentine I think. So is it celebrated only by Christians? And people associate it with Cupid, a Roman god. So... it's a christian festive celebrated by the Romans?
And undeniably the people who were the happiest on that day weren't the couples nor the lovers. It's the florists, restaurant owners, gift shop owners. Businessmen. I wouldn't call it schemes or scams but it's a powerful tool that they use to boost their sales. Couples that are deeply in love (the ones who take Valentine's Day seriously) would do anything (or maybe just many things) to make their partner happy. So when the whole world is buying gifts for their mates, how could they not do the same?
So. What is Valentine's day?
A. A day for romance
B. A day for love
C. A day for expecting your beau to surprise you with an incredibly sweet gift or some crazy act like spelling your name with umm... fireflies?
D. A day that has all the seemingly right reasons to make a whole in your pocket
The truth is. If love is real and love is true. Everyday spent with your lover is a Valentine's Day. Of course the actual day will more or less make things more romantic but it shouldn't be the only day where one has to think of how to make him or her happy. Valentine's Day is a strong reminder for us to do things, things more than just gifts to show love towards your other half on that day but again makes people forget about the remaining 364. Don't fall for that.
True lovers will just take Valentine's Day as a fun day to take a break from life and chill with your mate. Grab dinner. Hang out. Exchange gifts. And see how creative each other can be to maybe come up with a surprise. Have a laugh.
And for true love, commitment, trust, faith etc. The true essence of a relationship, those are written in the actions of their daily lives. It's in all the small things. The porridge he cooked you when you were sick. The sweater he used to cover your head from rain. And the porridge she made you when you were sick because you lent her your sweater. Valentine's Day does not and should not differ.
I am confused by my own words.
* It takes a long time to decide to do nothing. *
