My baby cousin Avril turned 1 yesterday! Well actually not exactly. She was born on chu yi of March last year so according to the chinese calendar it is her lunar birthday. Her actual birthday is on 16 March. Though her family didn't have time to come over so instead we celebrated yesterday.
My grandma did her thing and whipped up an awesome lunch for all of us. I baked her a cake. Didn't wanna take unnecessary risk so I baked another oreo cheesecake. My third. They all liked it quite a bit. Kept on comparing it with price of Secret Recipe's. Aunty-ness.

So this. Um I'm not exactly sure what this is. But it's basically a chinese tradition where the baby chooses and picks up the items which supposingly represent her future. Slowly but surely. Baby Avril touched the abacus first, then she picked up the angpau, followed by the pen. Funny how she loves food so much but touched none of them.
Guess that means that uhh maybe she's good at financial planning, lots of wealth, and stuff like that. I don't even know what she gets to pick three. The tradition modernised perhaps. Top 3 choices policy? Haha. And no offence but it's all untrue. Just for the fun of it I guess. I mean my grandma told me last time I picked the pen but I'm obviously about cards now. That cannot be explained.
And I mean if you really wanna make it believable. Then the choices should include drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, knife, dice, poker chips and all that. To see maybe she'll become a drug addict, suicidal, gambler etc. Oh well, people see only what they want to see. At least this little tradition doesn't require cost nor burning paper and polluting the air.
Avril gets cuter everytime I see her. I don't know how is that possible. Happy Lunar Birthday Avril!
