The Road Not Taken

Self-explanatory

So I wanted to watch New Year's Eve today. With Wanyu and special guest, Aaron! Very nice guy. Initially he didn't planned to join us but in the end he did. Wanyu must be so happy. Unfortunately there was a bit of a hiccup and literally lack of communication. We missed the 5.30pm slot at Iluma. Bus down to Orchard. Tickets for the 6.50pm show was freaking sold out. Damn. Didn't see that coming.

We were so frustrated. Except for Aaron. He was chilled.

After hasty consideration. We made a change of plans. We watched Sherlock Holmes instead! And I'm glad we did.

This poster kinda suck though

This is a sequel to the first film back in 2009. If not mistaken I watched it on Christmas Eve with my friends. The main cast was the same. Robert Downey Jr as Sherlock. Jude Law as Dr Watson. And the lovely Rachel McAdams as Irene.

The last film was just so-so but I must say. This time round. They did it right.

The storyline was genius. It was a head on battle of the wits between Holmes and Moriarty. The arch nemesis of Holmes. In the novels that is. Math genius. Champion Fighter. All that. Like a evil, fat and less charming version of Sherlock. He was the one who outwit Sherlock in the last film. Apparently Moriarty wanted to start a world war or economic world war. And of course Sherlock and partner Watson were to stop him.

Very witty. Very humorous. Very funny. Very English. And very, very smart. Nonetheless the action scenes were exciting and very much entertaining. The whole film felt like a complete puzzle. Where every scene and action were justified by the end of the movie. Incredibly fascinating. Awesome job on the writers' part.

I liked how Sherlock can kinda analyse and see into the future. I liked how Watson is so much more badass compared to the last film. I liked how Sherlock camouflages around. Especially the last scene. Seriously that caught me off guard. The only problem I had is that Irene (Rachel)'s death was kinda lame! I mean when a girl pass out and the movie continues no one expect her to just die like that right? Well in the movie she did. The scene was too.. anyhow-ish.

Other than that. I like this movie a great deal. Really love how it makes me think and go 'Ah damn that's genius.' Intellectually sensational.

I just found out the soundtrack was written by Hans Zimmer! Needless to say I'll be seeing them in my iPod soon enough.

8.5/10!

To Wanyu : Really the $2 was in your pocket. The one in your bag could really be the same one. I slipped the other one in Aaron's bag as well. And I do have privacy.

* Don't care. Still going to watch New Year's Eve one way or another.*
