There's the stage crew, lighting, music etc. A lady and I were in charge of the multimedia stuff. Slideshows and videos. Oh it was at the 新湖滨 restaurant. Straits Garden or something? I don't remember. Though I'm pretty sure it's the only restaurant in jb to have a huge neon lighted lobster with its whiskers (or whatever it's called) moving.
Um it wasn't that hard of a job but again wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. We just brief through everything. Didn't had time to really rehearse anything at all. A few minor setbacks. Some clips not working. And people. They just screw it up with their spontaneous.. ness. We had like slides arranged accordingly to the names of the awardees for them to go up on stage to receive their medal, trophy, prize, or whatever it is. And they just went up chaotic..ly. Thus the guy's picture appeared on the screen when the lady was up on stage bla bla bla.
The event was hosted by 黄文鸿. Familiar name huh. I only went 'Oh... him...' when I saw his face. Apparently he's the DJ for 100.3 fm. And the show itself was quite interesting. There were dance items. Twister... something. Their crew name. A group of six or seven girls. One was quite pretty. I think to be able to dance like them you need to fulfil three criteria.
1. You must be young and thin.
2. You must have long hair so you can whip them around every three seconds.
3. You must be daring enough to wear short. And thick make up. Like bullet proof thick.
Then there was 变脸!!! Mask or face change. A traditional chinese art of magic. It's a guy who dresses in this chinese opera costume wearing a mask. He dances and poses around then bam! His mask changes. It was my first time watching it live and up close. I was right in front of the stage. The guy's a master who performs internationally (could be just Singapore and Malaysia). Anway, damn he's fast!
It was very impressive. The change happened before you could even say 'what?!'. Even before you could pronounce the 'wh'. That fast. He ran down the stage and performed it close up to the guests and the VIPs. In the end the last mask change revealed his face. Middle-aged man. Don't judge a book by its cover. Seriously, this is the biggest reward of the day for me.
It ended sooner than I thought. We then each got an angpau. Nice of them to fetch us home. So that's how event management works. Quite the challening task. Day not wasted.
